SHORT BIOGRAFY
Lorenzo Ondarra (Bakaikoa, Navarre, 1931 –Pamplona , Navarre 2012).
He became Capuchin priest and studied music firstly in San Sebastián (composition with maestro Escudero, organ with Tomás Garbizu…) and Darmstadt, Siena and Lucerne with Stockhausen, Berio and Penderezky among other teachers.
He has prioritized his priesthood to the musical work, but his musical heritage is very interesting as choral composer.
In my opinion is one of the best arrangers of Basque traditional music and his approach to church music is also very interesting.
He has composed and arranged 260 works; 154 are for choir: children, male, female, and mixed. His compositions are a capella, with piano accompaniment, with string or brass ensemble, organ and big Symphonic orchestras.
Many of spanish leading choirs have performed and premiered his Works: Orfeón Pamplonés, Orfeón Donostiarra, Orfeó Catalá, Coral Andra Mari de Rentería, Coro Easo and Kanta Cantemus (Javi Busto’s former choir). His Pater Noster was the compulsory work at the 2012 International Choral Competition in Tolosa (Spain) and "2 gabon kanta" ( 2 Basque Carols) will be also de the compulsory work in 2022 edition.
He won the National Prize of Music in 1969. OE OFICINAand CM Ediciones have released some of his choral Works.
